Festival Patron & MC

Ian will serve as MC for OzManouche and perform in the concluding jam session at the end of each evening’s show.

OzManouche Festival Patron Ian Date is fluent in both the acoustic and electric realms of the guitar; his mastery of the instrument is matched only by his reputation as a sought-after guitar workshop mentor. Commencing his professional journey in 1975, Ian's musical path has led him to a rich and expansive career across Australia and the global stage, where he thrives as both a band leader and a collaborator.

His legacy spans an impressive discography of more than 70 albums, each a testament to his virtuosity and creative prowess. Ian's strings have resonated alongside luminaries such as Nigel Date, Fapy Lafertin, Robin Nolan, the esteemed late Bob Barnard, Tom Baker, Andy Firth, the versatile James Morrison, and the iconic guitarists Tommy Emmanuel and Martin Taylor. His musical narrative is one of harmonious collaboration and profound contribution to the musical tapestry.

"Ian has a deep respect and knowledge of the jazz guitar tradition, and his playing is always focused, melodic and swinging."
Martin Taylor (Solo artist and former member of the Stephane Grappelli trio)

“Ian is my 'go-to guy" when I need some inspiration or some new chord or harmonic concepts for my playing. He always has something for me!"
Robin Nolan
